Experience
I want to tutor because it combines my passions of working with young people and teaching. I love to see my students grasp concepts thereby increasing their own confidence and learning to make connections. For the past 13 years I've worked at two local private schools. Over the years I've taught grades 7-10 covering subjects English (vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing), history (ancient studies, medieval, geography), Old Testament, and yearbook (photography, journalism). Outside of the classroom, I tutored during college and have taught summer remediation courses as a teacher. In addition to tutoring my own students, I have also tutored high school students in both Spanish and English (focus on SAT writing). As a student myself I was part of National Honors Society, took AP courses in English and history, and took Latin, Spanish, and French. I received passing scores on AP tests in U.S. History, English Composition, and English Literature Relevant Classes: BA in English; minors in Spanish, Intercultural Studies, and Psychology

Hobbies
From the time I was young I've always loved to read. Reading allowed me to travel to faraway places and learn new things in an engaging way. As I grew older I was able to actually travel to faraway places and experience new cultures - France, Wales, the Czech Republic, Jordan, Israel, Gaza, and Ethiopia. Though I don't get to travel overseas like I did when I was younger, I still enjoy traveling in the U.S. whether it's road-tripping to California or exploring New York City. I've also been blessed to experience new cultures closer to home as well. I'm the oldest of seven children and my three youngest brothers are from Ghana, Africa. This past spring we were able to meet their biological uncle and are currently planning a family trip to Ghana. Additionally, my husband and I have hosted a Chinese international student for the past four years. All of this has taught me to appreciate differences for they are worth understanding and make the world a far richer place. Finally, when I'm not teaching or traveling, I love playing games, photography (especially nature), and soccer (the World Cup is great!)
